Delta Dog Day 5

Delta is so sweet and so friendly.  We both had a good nights sleep as she is adjusting.   After meeting her in the kitchen this morning to check up on her and  then leaving to go take a shower, she went bat shit crazy, knocking over the trash in the kitchen in the "hand wave" container.  I heard it from the staircase and ran to the kitchen, her body was in the trash can!   She found a bone from last nights dinner and was frantically chewing and ingesting it.  I am not messing with a beagle and her food!   Now the trash can in on the list of "what to do next" and is located in the family room today.  It is what is beagle is.

Delta Dog Day 4

Beyond belief, we both got to sleep upstairs in our bed all night!  She could not scale the new gate and settled in her crate in the kitchen around 2:00 AM.  Otto gave me the night but after she settled, he came upstairs and she did not bark or whine all night!!!   I came down after a shower, took her outside on her lead and then fed her.  Back upstairs to do my hair etc.  I heard "something" and came downstairs to find that she had opened the pantry (that has a magnet closure on it for dog/children safety) and had a bag of marshmallows on the floor, not opened thank goodness.   I blocked it with a chair but removed anything that she could get to if she opened it again (within her reach).  NOTE:  new plan for pantry.   Later in the day we were sitting outside with her and she picked some cherry tomatoes and ate them (yes I checked on Google that they are NOT poisonous for dogs).  After dinner with friends, she snatched a corncob an...

Delta Dog Days 3

We have not been able to leave her alone for more than a few minutes.  UGH newborn.  She is a sweetheart and not bothered or barking at other dogs. After I worked at the Thrift shop I took her up to the pool deck and locked the gate.  She is so small  she got through the rungs of the deck.  ðŸ˜³  It is what it is.  She is so sweet but so is needy and so challenging.

Delta Dog Days 2

Friday August 16 I am still the only one with her after couch sleep last night.  Still can't leave the floor without her whining or barking.  Getting used to yard, have lead for her in yard, don't want to leave her alone.  She is small.  15 lbs.  Had friends over and she was so friendly.  So cleaning up and somehow she managed to paw open the hand wave wastebasket, get a watermelon piece out and jump the gate to the family room and jump on the couch to eat it.  Otto stayed up until 3:30 AM and as soon as he left she cried and barked until I came down with my pillow and blanket to the couch.  She went in her crate in the kitchen and slept all night, not a peep.  So needy as long as one of us are there.  Jumping the gate to the family room is not working so I ordered a taller gate.

Delta Dog Days Day 1

Back story:   I lost my beagle Lucy a year ago.   With all that happened I stepped back and did not decide to get another dog right away.   Well, about a month ago my son Andrew found the perfect adoptable dog on a rescue called "Almost Home".  She was about a year old and had 7 puppies.  The owner did not want to deal with this and fostered them to a wonderful family with 5 children (4 boys) and I applied.  I hit the jackpot but had about a month to wait for "Kiki" to wean the puppies.  Well......it happened 2 weeks before we had planned.  So....Thursday (after a trip to Traverse City for the weekend) we picked up Kiki.  This beagle "lamb" is about 15 months old and just barely stopped nursing her puppies and had to leave her Foster family.   So....she was so nervous.  Spent the day scouting our house, not eating, not drinking, barely walking on leash but.....started to settle.  Put crate in kitchen with her blanket and her be...
