Dark Desolate November Day
I have been home since Wednesday November 3rd after having major foot surgery. I have a beautiful purple cast that will be on for 2 weeks and have been on crutches.....all a first for me. I have not returned to school but will try for tomorrow. Dr. Janigian faxed the ok to work, if I stay off my foot and do limited walking. I had two toes straightened and some bone shaved and other stuff that I don't even know about. I had planned to do this BEFORE my classroom closed on October 22nd and my students were sent to other classes. Then I had to apply to get the math Title I position that had been created for me at another building. I was given a whole two days to pack and forced the district to move me, they took their sweet time to deliver my stuff almost a week later and I had no time to unpack before this surgery last week. The crap I am taking from the janitors to the superintendent is unbelievable...shadows of 6 years ago when I was moved 4 times. I have filed a grievance for losing a 1/4 day that some secretary decided she needed to take because I was getting the Physical Therapy that the Dr. I went to that the school sent me to, decided I needed to attend outside of the time after school I had been going to for an injury that I received when I fell on a school field trip with my class to the downtown Hamtramck Library. I wanted them to have one field trip with me before my class was ripped apart and thought that if they could get their Library cards it would be helpful. I fell on an uneven sidewalk and really hurt my knee. After walking all the way back to school and waiting until after school to go to the Dr., the damage was well on its way to my knee. So with a brace and ordered PT, I continued to go to school, climb the stairs despite orders not to, and teach and administer the MEAP and spend my last week with my class, I probably did more to the knee than I should have. Now, then, I packed my classroom in 2 days and put in probably 6 more hours after school, all the time wearing this brace and they dare dock me for 1/4 day???? After starting my new position at a different school on Wednesday, my stuff was moved over in 2 days (because I refused to move it on my own this time) it sat in the hall until Tuesday the next week because the janitors were way too busy and had declared that there was too much stuff to fit in my room. Needless to say, I told them that I would be the judge of that. Since my surgery was scheduled for the next day, I had only a few hours to try and unpack a few things and try to get some organization.
I have had a tough couple of days recovering. This is way more than I thought it would be. I was only in my new position of Title I math for 4 days and haven't really had a feel for all the newness and after being ripped out of my classroom (that I really was good at teaching a split for 6 years), I am feeling a little overwhelmed and don't know what will happen tomorrow. I can only hope for the best. Did a lot of work from home, both school and things like signing Christmas cards, annual letter, ordering stuff, and just catching up....it is what it is
