Deja Vu all over again.
School ended and unbelievably, I finished my long list. Banks, library (new Jan Karon book in from inter-library loan), packing, emptying the bathroom that is being torn apart for new shower, packing and sealing up our furniture and things from our bedroom...we were on our way to the airport. Parked, took the shuttle, breezed through security (one of us...me...as someone carries a tool like a pocket knife in his briefcase), found gate (right terminal this time) 23 and waited. Boarded, pushed off and stopped and sat. After 10-15 minutes the pilot announced they were opening the doors and a mechanic had to check out something....groans! We later learned that a de-icing light would not go off which meant that there was a malfunction I guess and at 30 plus thousand feet, you need that equipment. Well, we knew were were in trouble when we saw the baggage trucks pull up next to the plane. Everyone de-planed, luggage, flight attendants, even the pilot. It is now dark and starting to rain. Back to gate 23. After 20 minutes or so, Southwest announced that we would be moving to gate 21 and a flight from St. Louis was soon to land and we could use that aircraft. After another half-hour or so, we re-loaded, this time faster because we had all practiced this. We were on the honor system to keep our same seats (can you believe that adult life is just like school????) It is now going on 10:00 instead of the original 7:50 departure time. Because there were now storms in the area, it was a very bumpy ascension, but a very quick ride. With a larger plane, that flight to Baltimore from Detroit is quick. So quick, by the time we ordered drinks, (gratis), and they were served, it was time to start descending, again, very bumpy, but quick. Southwest is the best. Their snappy attendants are the funniest and most comedic I have ever encountered. Even though it was late, and we had a delay (not as bad as last trip to Phoenix), and Brian and Andrew waited on the other end for a long time, it was a good trip and most importantly, we arrived safely! The Southwest people on the ground in the D need to learn that Baltimore time is the same as Detroit time!
I was able to catch Andrew and Brian at the elevators of their condo just as they were leaving the first time to pick us up. Their drive to Baltimore is longer than the flight from Detroit...it is what it is!
Let the fun spring break begin!
