December Whirlwind
We wait all year for December to get here. It is not about the gifts but that is part of it. I am glad we did Elfster this year. Was a lot of fun. A& B, M & D arrived on Friday with A & B 2 coming late Saturday night. Everyone was busy last minute shopping, cooking and wrapping throughout the day. We had until midnight to be ready. After champagne and unwrapping we headed to bed about 3:00 as Otto and I had to usher at the 9:00 service. It was a fun morning as we had our traditional egg & cheese casserole and more champagne as Bryce and Amanda tried to time zone catch up, Matt and Dana had to return to Chicago as they both had to work Monday. Very difficult to see them leave so soon after arriving! We filled Monday and Tuesday with all kinds of activities; lunch, Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village, shopping, eating and playing games, including Apples to Apples, Scrabble and Scattergories. We watched episodes of Modern Family, Christmas Movies and Downton Abbey. Christmas Eve was Grandmas and salt block soup as the Sauerkraut, sausage and mushroom soup has come to be known. Service at First Presbyterian Plymouth was beautiful and meaningful. Another late night playing Scattergories. Video chatting with Matt & Dana made their absence a bit easier. Christmas morning we opened stockings with Brian making Chorizo and eggs. He was the next to leave to spend Christmas in LA with his family. A long walk around the neighborhood in very cold weather helped me say adios. A trip downtown to see the night lights of Campus Martius was a nice distraction. Yesterday we filled the day with clearance between Michaels and Target. Could not believe how stripped Michaels was and how much Target had left. I always like to have all my ribbon, wrap, cards, stationary, tags and anything else I can get at half price. I even found my two items for next December's Christmas auction. Amanda and I took Bryce to the airport for his flight to Phoenix to spend a few days with his family before attending a Sunday afternoon wedding and his return trip to LA on Monday. Another hard goodbye. I am happy that Andrew is here until Saturday when he will join Brian and some friends in San Fran for the New Year and a quiet rest. Amanda stays until Monday before returning to LA and work. We have plenty to do, even if it is just a game, a fire or a movie at home. The time together goes way too fast and I can't get enough of it. Enjoying EVERY minute. It Is What It Is and It IS very good.
