Birthday Girl
July 2, 2012
I have a coffee mug that I received last year for my birthday that has
an outlandish number of the year I celebrated. Yesterday was the first anniversary of that birthday. It was a wonderful day, nothing
major, but special because so many
people that I know and love went out of their way to make it special to
me. My daughter made me happy by
just being there. My boys called
on iChat. My husband bought me
lavender roses and lavender balloons. I received a round trip ticket to Boston
to visit my boys. Even my
mother-in-law called and wished me a Happy Birthday and told me she loved me. She has never done that before. My best friend sent every e-card she
could find, those made me laugh.
We spent the day in and out of the pool, on the phone, a lot of doing
nothing but filling every minute and ended up at Papa Vino’s for dinner. We closed the day watching the new
Muppets movie. Nothing outlandish,
just special. Last year my
birthday celebration was quite different
My best friend and her husband flew in from Arizona to surprise me on my
July 1st birthday at
Buffalo Wild Wings, where my husband and I and all the kids had gone for
dinner. They had lied to me for
weeks and told me nothing special was planned, but they would all be home for
July 4th and wasn’t that special enough? I was so relieved that it would be just us and I didn’t have
to have a party. Well after
I recovered the surprise of Cindy & Tom’s arrival, Cindy and I got busy to
make plans of spending the day together on Saturday. I took her to Pewabic Tiles on Jefferson Ave., Papa Vino’s
for lunch, shopping at Dress Barn, all of our favorite things to do. She forced me to get my first pedicure
and we laughed the day away. I had
no idea of the plans for a huge surprise party that was carried out right under
my nose. Probably around 5:00, we
decided it was time to return to my house where the guys had promised us a
bar-bar-cue for dinner.
(Unbeknownst to me, my children had turned on the GPS on my iPhone so
they had followed my every move throughout the day). When Cindy and I arrived,
I noticed a lot of cars parked around my street as someone is always having a
party on my block. Well, that
someone was me. You could have
knocked me over with a feather. My
family had completely pulled one over on me. I had no idea what so ever. I was the one that always planned the parties and
surprises. But this time, the surprise
was on me.
