A Quick June Blog Before July Hits

Foggy, rainy, misty, oh my!  Planning to head out on my own today to the Boston Commons and do some "touring".  It has been a fun week.  First our trip with the Ding-a-lings to Rehoboth, lots of sun, sand and surf, food and fun.  A quick flight to Boston, (not without delays and issues but quick none-the-less), and here now with Brian and Andrew.  Their new place is so charming.  The area is all Victorian walk-ups and oozing quaintness.  We walked to the grocery store Wed night for an evening of wine, bread and cheese and tuna salad sandwiches.  Yesterday it was quesadillas at Boloco with Andrew and I struck off on my own.  First stop was old South Church.  Amazing ancient architecture and awe.  Next stop was the finish line to the Boston Marathon, and the area right down the street from the church where the explosions were.  Chilling.  (Not being a runner it is the only way I would see the finish line is from the sidewalk!)  Across the street is the Boston Public Library. I spent an hour taking photos and trying to keep my jaw from hitting the floor.  The murals, marble, sculpture and space is truly amazing!  Beautiful courtyard, inviting for study or lunch.  Across the street in Copley Square is another lovely old church (Trinity) but unless you pay for a ticket, you can't walk in (those Episcopalians are not as friendly as the Catholics at Old South!!)  So, I took some more photos of the area, fountain and walked to The" mall.  Entered my first Tiffany's.  They weren't busy and the guys were chatty and before I could say Michigan, one had unlocked a case and had a ring for me to try on.  I just couldn't!  Maybe if I had a friend for back-up!   I could not believe all the beautiful pieces they have.  I rarely go in a jewelry store, much less one like Tiffany's, and try not to gape like a country bumpkin!  What fun!  It was raining when I went into "The" mall so I wandered through Williams Sonoma and window shopped at stores I had only heard of but have never seen.  Some had names I can't even pronounce like on Rodeo Drive!  As it was getting late, I decided to venture back home and was actually able to re-orient a woman that got turned around and could not find the train station (which was almost across the street).  How's that for a Bellevue to Boston girl?  Back home with A & B we chatted and decided to venture out to a pizza place for dinner only to find an hour to an hour and a half wait....on a Thursday!  So a couple more blocks of oozing city charm buildings we ended up at a place called South End Buttery.  One word......YUM!  Andrew had mussels, Brian a turkey burger and I had an order of fried calamari with a special sauce.  Good drinks, good food, good company, good times.  It is what it is and it is good!
