It Can't Be Saturday Already?!
The days have flown as has the summer! After our busy rainy Wednesday and our yummy seafood dinner "down by the bay" at , Thursday dawned sunny but cool. We drove with Andrew to Providence where his current office is. Once in Newport, we found a cute bar called the Gaslight Lantern to have lunch. I had my first real clam chowder. One word.....YUM! Otto and I continued to The Breakers, which takes a while to get through but is so interesting and mammoth. We ran out of time to drive around and gawk at the other mansions or do the cliff walk, that I so wanted to do again. One big difference from April was that the foliage is so thick on the trees now but didn't exist in the spring so you could see so much more from the mansions set back from the road. What a place. What a life they must have lived. Imagine a summer home over 100,000 square feet with 17 bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, 40 servants, changing clothes 7 times a day...and I think I have it tough!
We stopped in Providence to pick Andrew, arriving back in Boston to find Brian making a stir fry that was scrumptious. To walk that off we took the T to the north side for Mike's Cannoli, mine, creme filling.
Friday, Brian had a community service project for a half-day but Andrew worked from home so the there of us took the T to The Science Museum and took a duck boat tour. I give it 4/4 stars. Our tour guide would be able to do well on "Last Comic Standing". Well worth the money. I knew most of the places we drove by but it just made it better.
Back home, Brian joined us and this time we drove to Harvard to have lunch at The Chicken & Rice Guys food truck. Double yum. 4/4 stars. You would think I could remember NOT to use so much hot sauce as it does not like me. The white sauce is so good with the dish of chicken, rice, lamb, and lettuce with a couple slices of warmed pita. We will be making this in the winter again but it is never quite as good as the food truck. After walking through Harvard yard and around campus, (Brian's Alma Mater), a bit of shopping and full tummies, we returned home.
Our evening walk to Fenway Park was cool and easy. After Tiger Stadium, Fenway is truly a trip down memory lane, including the posts! The game was fun and the evening perfect. The guys enjoyed Fenway Franks, (I was still suffering from hot sauce) beer and peanuts. We left the game in the 9th inning with the Red Sox and the Astros tied 3-3. Relief pitchers were dropping like flies. The Astros won the game in extra innings, 5-3. The best part of the game was a questionable double play in favor of the Astros and some lunatic jumping the wall and running to mid-field before being caught by about 30 security guards. It was a long walk home but hey I scored over 18,693 steps, my highest ever. It is what it is and it was a very good day. Thanks Andrew & Brian!
