Dreary Saturday!

Well, I guess it makes more accept fall all the more! It will be in the 60's and getting cooler thru next week. I can't believe how blessed we were with the perfect weather all 3 days of the wedding festivities last weekend. At least it will cool off in the school building soon. 103 in Arizona today so they are "cooling" off there too! Some errands to do (flu shot at Target?), and our first fall neighborhood Trivia group tonight. Many of the wedding flowers still look nice. Too bad I couldn't get them to Hospice with all their construction going on but we gave some away and others have enjoyed them too. The yard still looks gorgeous. It will be time to bring in all the houseplants soon and i never know where they will all go! All those geraniums go to school and my room is already packed. So much to do both at school and home. One Day at a Time...one thing at a time...it is what it is.

TGIF

Why did Friday come more quickly when it was summer? Time goes soooo fast. A week already since everyone was here and rehearsal dinner. Talked to Andrew tonight and he and Brian were officially married in Cape Cod this morning. He said it took all of 10 minutes!! They were flying back to Arlington tonight and are safely home. I am missing everyone. Went to a really good writing workshop all day today. Putting up fall decorations, I guess I can't fight it any longer! Haven't been in the pool for a week now. I think it might be officially OVER!!! HA! It is noticeably cooler in the morning and in the evening. Oh well, a week from today is October! It is what it is.

How did it get to be Thursday?

Ok, ok so I have been lax! It has been a whale of a week and I haven't blogged since Monday! This is now Thursday. My 6th graders are driving me friggin nuts! They won't stop talking and fooling around. Finally feel like I am getting a handle on being back at school. Out tomorrow for a writing workshop at Rock Financial Showplace....I feel so important. I had a dermatologist appt. today and had to scoot out the door after school and one of my 5th graders said..."Oh we didn't realize you were sick!" True! Started science today and spent 2 days catching up from being gone. Where does the time go? Piano lesson tonight and it was dark by 7:30 ugh! It is what it is!

Back to school

The newleyweds are in Boston, probably by Cape Cod now. In-service today: "anybody?" So many things to get done and so little time! Working on a computer program for the students tomorrow. It may be nice to really get started with my class! Ok, off to work...around the house that is! It is what it is!

Boy oh boy

Back to reality tomorrow, early wake-up and workshop due to Eid. I don't know where to start on the most incredible wedding I have ever been to. The support was incredible. It has been a lot of work and a lot of prep time but every second was worth it. I am sorry everyone had to leave soo soon! I spent the day just catching up. It started out dark and rainy and so did I feeling it would never get better! But lots of work and business chases the blues away. So many thoughts and feelings. The guys are almost home, a few more hours. Can't wait to be together again. About 70 + days until Thanksgiving. Love it all....love you guys all! Footnote, old people need to be tested or get off the road! It is what it is!!!

Countdown to wedding

Too much to say so I won't say anything. Why do we have storybook ideals about everything? The dog is happy to have so many people around!!!!!! So much left to do for Brian & Andrew's wedding tomorrow. Guess I better get busy. Weather is perfect. Still never lost that 30 lbs. It is what it is!

2/3 are home

Only Matt & Dana to come home yet. Andrew & Brian arrived first about 6:30. Highway work slowed them down a bit. Amanda's plane was changed, seat changed, an hour late and when they finally boarded, taxied to take off, the pilot announced there was a crack in the windshield and the defroster wasn't working so they returned to the gate to wait (better safe for sure). She was nearly 2 hours late but arrived safely and that is what is important. Planned for what to do today and everyone was just worn out! Still a lot of ground to cover (both work and wedding) Shopping, piano lesson etc. Off to fun. It is quite chilly this morning (high 40's). Fall is imminent.....it is what it is
Science in-service all day at RESA. Good one! Now if I can ever get to my classroom ( I work one day this week and one day next) I can implement some of this good stuff. BEAU-tiful day but they are getting shorter and supposed to cool off tomorrow. Looks like Brian & Andrew will have the fall wedding they wanted on Sat.!!!! Otto leaving for food show tonight....me and Casey. Amanda flies in tomorrow and A & B home also. Matt & Dana Thursday!!!! Guess I don't have to do my blog tonight....I just did it! Ha Ha I feel so cool now that I know how to copy and paste and my post was about 100 characters too long. I have to do lesson plans tonight (talk about cut and paste) and a homework policy for the open house that I won't be there for on Friday. It is what it is!!!!

Science Center Monday

What a day! The building only had one or two teachers today, everyone was out for an in-service and we took the 5th grades to a "Meap me" workshop at the Science Ctr. in Detroit. The bus was an hour late and we learned that they never received our order! We had 40 5th graders and only 2 teachers with no other help. These are still 4th graders, have not learned to listen, behave, not run, shout, scream and act like wild monkeys. We have our work cut out for us this year! They were not ready for a field trip! Then I had a math meeting and then worship committee. At least I got a few minutes in the pool before the pool was out of the sun. Relaxing!!!! I am ready to scream they are so out of control! Tomorrow I am out all day for a science workshop for our new Foss kits and back Wed., then out Thurs & Fri. for the wedding! Next week is Eid on Monday & Tuesday (I'm out Monday still) and we have workshops, then I have Study Island in-service on Wed and a Wri...
Geeze Louieze.....the weekend is already over. I spent Saturday at my first piano lesson of the season and running errands and Otto & I went to an awesome old car show at Greenfield Village. So many people, so many cars. They were old......beginnings to about 1940. Today was spent doing Sunday stuff. Pool both days. Hard to believe it is mid-September, the days have been 70-80's and the pool is heated to about 80. The flowers and yard look so nice. I could live like this year round. Big week coming. I have a field trip to the Science Ctr. in Detroit tomorrow for my 5th graders, A science workshop Tuesday at RESA, normal day on Wed and off for the Wedding on Thursday and Friday. Lexi got to AZ safe yesterday, Amanda, Brian & Andrew all come home on Wednesday, Matt & Dana on Thursday and we go from there! I feel confident that all is ready, I have my 6th grade math meeting Monday night, then Worship Committee, and Wed. is ADK, picking Amanda up from the airpo...

The first week is OVER!

Amanda is ready to start a blog with me giving her perspective on much of the same as my perspective. I can only hope that this year is not as difficult and active as last! I will comment on all of that sometime! My 6th graders are worse than my 5th. I am ready to line them up and smack them! I really need to lay down the law since I had them all last year in 5th, they seem to think they are king shit here. I am exhausted today and it didn't help that I overslept by 1/2 hour this morning which I almost NEVER do! There is still so much more to do and I am out with the 5th on Monday to the Science Center for a MEAP prep workshop. Well, the 6th graders can just do seat work and see how they like that! Then Tues, I am out for the entire day for a Science workshop, there Wed. and Thurs & Fri out for THE WEDDING!!! Hmmm....I need a margarita because, it is what it is!

9-10-09

weird date after yesterday!!!! Writing workshop on the 3rd day of school.....good day but busy. After workshop it was a real quick lunch and afternoon. Started MEAP review and then off to another school for our grade level math meeting. Piano cancelled and I have no idea where the evening went. Email, phone calls, treadmill, dark and I still haven't read the paper and Grey's Anatomy is already on! It is what it is!

2nd day of school

Quick post on 09-09-09 I am up to 27 in my split. 31 on list. Trying to fill the time with the week with so much to do but can't really start routine work yet. I am out for a writing workshop on the 3rd day....great planning to have a sub on the 3rd day of school. It was muggy and warm today but not too bad. Fall is coming quickly and it is getting dark earlier every day. Home late due to staff meeting and went to funeral home as Lexi's grandmother died on Sunday. Lexi flew home again today, 2 days after returning to Phoenix after being here to see her grandmother on the weekend. Her family was there and although it was nice to see everyone, the circumstances were hard. To top matters off, her dog died on Tuesday! We were all in Phoenix together only 2 weeks ago when they got the news that grandma was not doing well. Poor Lexi has more mileage in the last week than her whole life! It is what it is!
This is not going to be easy to keep up as I have gone back to school. Today is the 1st day of my 10th year in Hamtramck Michigan public school. I teach a 5/6 split and have 30 on my list. I had 24 show today with another coming about 1:30. Had a Dr. appt. Didn't you have ALL summer? No mind, it went fast with all the rules, paperwork, books, lockers, you name it, we did it. I was awake at 5, left the house by 6:30, endured the rain and humidity all day, have very tired feet (1st time not barefoot and in shorts in a long time) and am just plain worn out. Man, I am getting too old for all this. Those stairs are killers (someone said there are 48 from the basement) until you get used to them again. And those kids can talk! First rule.....English only. I can't understand Arabic and who know what they are calling me! LOL Overall good class, we will do miracles and work wonders this year..as always is the optimistic attitude on day one. On another note, poor Lexi has ...

Amanda is in the trailer! 9/7/09

After watching the trailer for "Youth in Revolt" coming out this fall, Amanda discovered that she is in the trailer at 1 minute 9 seconds. We are able to pause it and actually see her walking out of the shot to the far right. You can spot her long blonde pony tail, white shirt and skirt. She was in several scenes as an extra when it was shot a year and a half ago! How fun! Can't wait to see this bad boy! It is what it is!

Labor Day 2009 September 7th

Last day to sleep in for awhile! I have to say it...wasn't it just Memorial Day? I knew this would happen! Filled the hummingbird feeder for the umteenth time this summer in hopes of spotting just one bird. Spilled it on the patio, had to hose it down and Casey so she wouldn't drink it! While I was putting it away, I emptied the egg carton to the egg holder, spotted a broken egg and guess what I had for breakfast? Yesterday at Thornapple Lake was the best. The weather was great and we had a nice visit with Dave, Doris, Annette, Michael and their camping friends. On the way back from our cruise, we stopped at Charleton Park which is a park filled with historic buildings, a school, church etc. from Barry County. We had the place to ourselves and many of the buildings were open for us to explore. When we boarded the pontoon, Dave discovered the steering wheel cable was no longer attached and Dave & Otto had to paddle the rest of the way back. Good thing it wasn...

Sunday September 6, 2009

Quiet and cool morning. Hope it warms up a little. Looking forward to seeing my brother Dave and his family, niece Annette, nephew Mike, and Dave's girlfriend Doris. Hope we go for a boat cruise around the lake, I love that. Hate leaving itchy and scratchy home, even after a bath yesterday that dog is driving me crazy with her scratching. She is on more allergy medicine than I am. Guess she came to the right family to live! Gave the Honda a wash yesterday, I have leased it now for 2 1/2 years and this is the first time I have ever washed it by hand. The wheels were bad and the car wash doesn't get those clean. Now I can't drive it much because I am getting close to the end of the miles. Next car....bigger miles! It is what it is.

Saturday September 5, 2009

oh geeze here it is Saturday night of Labor Day weekend. I am making pasta salad and brownies to go to my brother's place at the lake tomorrow and spend some time with him at the lake. I just took Casey for a walk in the full moon (light) and could see Mars. Our neighborhood is one with carriage lights in the yard and no street lights. Thank goodness our sidewalks were all replaced and leveled last year so it is easy to walk in the dark. What is with our street being dug up in the middle of the 2 blocks is beyond my comprehension! Casey didn't even see the rabbit hopping across our path, surprise since she had squirrel for lunch last week. Euwww! Anyway, I was watching the planes over head going into their landing patterns and marveling at the engineering of flight. I will never tire of watching them land or take off. While I was out doing errands today, I was at the deli and ran into a very rude employee of a major chain store in Michigan. God, who do they think t...
Today is Saturday September 5th (already). I can't believe how easy it has been to sleep in! But then staying up late to watch Rosanne and Home Improvement re-runs makes one tired! I am looking forward to the new school year but will miss the sleeping in. A classroom full of 5th and 6th graders can wear you out. I already have 30 on my class list. Well I guess it's time to enjoy the Labor Day weekend and put school on hold for a couple of days. I just realized 24 years ago today was my mother's funeral. I sure am missing the kids this weekend even though Brian and Andrew were home last weekend. This is our first Labor Day weekend home with just us! Everyone will be here in 2 weeks for the big wedding. Hard to believe summer is nearly over. The yard looks so nice. The pool is cold already even though the days are warm and sunny. Just hope it doesn't turn 90 once school starts! Well, it is what it is.
Took Casey for some bloodwork today for her allergies and it cost nearly $100.00. Boy am I in the wrong business! Then while I was taking her for her walk she decided to let loose right in front of the school. Boy are those kids going to be surprised on the first day! I forgot my baggie! OOOPS. It is what it is.

Carol's first post!

This is Carol's first blog post! Exciting! It is what it is!!!!
