This is not going to be easy to keep up as I have gone back to school. Today is the 1st day of my 10th year in Hamtramck Michigan public school. I teach a 5/6 split and have 30 on my list. I had 24 show today with another coming about 1:30. Had a Dr. appt. Didn't you have ALL summer? No mind, it went fast with all the rules, paperwork, books, lockers, you name it, we did it. I was awake at 5, left the house by 6:30, endured the rain and humidity all day, have very tired feet (1st time not barefoot and in shorts in a long time) and am just plain worn out. Man, I am getting too old for all this. Those stairs are killers (someone said there are 48 from the basement) until you get used to them again. And those kids can talk! First rule.....English only. I can't understand Arabic and who know what they are calling me! LOL Overall good class, we will do miracles and work wonders this year..as always is the optimistic attitude on day one.
On another note, poor Lexi has to fly home again tomorrow for her grandmother's funeral, just got back to Phoenix Sunday night.
My class is worried about H1N1 and we have cases of sanitizer. I love the fact that we were supposed to listen to Obama's speech today. My TV is so old, I have a converter box because we have no cable, and it is hooked up but not working. Now they are sending a cd to every child in school in the USA. How about some school supplies? And updated computers? And enough money to pay for teachers, and computer training on the computers we don't have and money to buy all the notebooks, pencils, kleenex, hand sanitizer, paper etc. Do I have to go on????? I spend probably $500.00 on my class every year on just school supplies. I am getting a real bad feeling here and I voted for him. Get real and get into the inner city where parents aren't visible and we do everything for these students because so many of them are immigrants and don't have a clue. I know, I know......it is what it is!
