July to August
Reflecting back on the almost 2 weeks I spent in California I realize what a great trip I had, how lucky I am and how people are put in our lives at just the right time. I spent almost an entire week unpacking and putting stuff away for Amanda and Bryce. After a couple of days, I was able to venture out to their complex pool, and eventually explore their beautiful neighborhood and city. On Sunday, we settled in. Monday and Tuesday, I unpacked and put away. Wednesday, I continued but went to the pool. By Thursday, I was ready for adventure and both Thursday and Friday I rode the city bus and subway to have lunch in Hollywood with Amanda. On Saturday we hit IKEA......mistake. Between renting a U-Haul truck (OMG the hassle of that) and Saturday at any IKEA, we were exhausted. Sunday, Amanda and I went to the Hollywood Museum and drove to Santa Monica Pier. So fun but fighting the traffic and people (I swear all of California went to the pier on Sunday), we were spent. Got to see where Bryce works (imagine a block from the Pacific) and "did" the shop walk. So many people.
On Monday, Amanda asked me to come to lunch again and was getting a little cocky about riding the bus and the subway. (Ok on Thursday, the first day, I missed my stop on the bus and went 6 or so stops beyond where I was suppose to get off and ended up in Beverly Hills....not a bad mistake...good thing I had exactly $1.50 in my pocket for the return trip)....anyway I got on the wrong line and people are so nice and helpful, that I was back on the right track.....no pun intended...in no time and only about 15 min. late to Amanda's work. A little scary when you do something like that in LA. A little Korean guy helped me and said "Oh I tink u on wong train"........sooo nice. Thank God for angels in LA!!! That night Amanda and I went to the Labrae tar pits....so cool...so interesting. I had actually passed it when I rode the bus too long.
Tuesday was hard. I had to say goodbye to Amanda and Bryce as they left for work. Spent the morning watching Downton, and waited for my shuttle to LAX. Not a bad trip, just didn't want to talk to chatty people. When I am going home, I want to wave the wand, blink and be there. LAX is a zoo.
Flight was an hour late and I had 10 minutes in Phoenix to get to my gate and somehow (no thanks to the people on the plane that are asked to wait to de-plane for people that have late connections), I caught a cart and actually made it! Glad to be back in the D, even if it was 2:00 in the morning. Lucy (and Otto) and me were very happy to be home. 4:00 bedtime that night with a noon haircut the next day....all the re-scheduling with a last minute trip. It Is What It Is and It Was Good!
